Taps are rotary cutting tools that cut internal threads in metal. They have cutting teeth and either helical or straight flutes for the passage of chips and the admission of cutting fluid. The purpose of cutting internal threads is so that it can receive a part with an external thread, such as a bolt, rod, or fastener. These two parts can then be joined together. Taps can be made out of different types of steel and can be engineered for different applications.
