Hand Brushes

Scratch brushes are used for cleaning dirt, rust, scale, and paint for plating and welding operations. The brushes are available with a wooden shoe handle, wooden curved handle, and wooden curved handle with a scraper. Choose between carbon steel wire, which is considered for “general purpose” use and stainless steel wire, which should be used on aluminum, stainless steel, and other high tensile alloys to prevent contamination.

If you have a smaller job, consider using a welder’s toothbrush. Also used for cleaning dirt, rust, scale, and paint for plating and welding operations but with a smaller brush. The welder’s toothbrush is available in brass wire and carbon steel wire for “general purpose” applications, or stainless steel when used on aluminum, stainless steel, and other high tensile alloys.

Another popular type of hand brush is the horsehair-filled acid brush, which is used for cleaning and coating.
