Stainless Steel Carriage Bolts
Stainless steel carriage bolts are versatile fasteners widely used in various applications due to their durability and corrosion resistance. Available in both inch and metric sizes, these bolts come in different grades such as 304, 316, and A4-70, each offering specific characteristics.
304 stainless steel carriage bolts are the most commonly used grade. They are made from an alloy containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel, providing excellent corrosion resistance and general-purpose durability. These bolts are ideal for indoor applications and environments where they are not exposed to harsh chemicals or extreme conditions.
316 stainless steel carriage bolts are a step up in terms of corrosion resistance. They contain 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum. This additional molybdenum enhances their ability to withstand corrosive environments, including exposure to saltwater and certain chemicals. Therefore, 316 stainless steel carriage bolts are often used in marine applications and outdoor settings where corrosion is a concern.
A4-70 is a metric grade stainless steel carriage bolt commonly used in Europe. It is similar to 316 stainless steel but with a higher tensile strength. The "A4" designation indicates that the bolt is made from 316 stainless steel, and the "70" refers to the minimum tensile strength in megapascals (MPa), which is approximately equivalent to 700 MPa. A4-70 carriage bolts are suitable for demanding applications that require both corrosion resistance and strength.
